ChatGPT group chats alternative

Group chats are gone. This is where that conversation lives now.

OpenAI began retiring ChatGPT group chats on 9 July 2026, so you can no longer start or join one. Convaa is the same idea, built to stay: one thread, everybody in it, the AI reading the whole conversation as it goes.

Common questions

What happened to ChatGPT group chats?
OpenAI began retiring them on 9 July 2026. From that date you could no longer create or join a new group chat, existing ones became read-only, and history stayed readable. OpenAI described it as simplifying the product after the pilot.
What is the closest replacement?
Convaa. It is built around the thing group chats were for: several people in one conversation with an AI that reads everything anyone has said. You send a link, people join, and everyone can prompt the same thread.
Do the other people need an account?
No. A visitor can open the link and start prompting straight away. If they sign up afterwards their messages and threads carry over, because the account is added to the identity they already had rather than replacing it.
Is this just ChatGPT again?
No. Convaa runs Claude, GPT and open models, and you can put one question to several of them at once and get a synthesized answer. You can also bring your own provider key.
Can we run it on our own infrastructure?
Yes. Convaa ships a self-hosted stack you can stand up with one command, including on-premise deployments. That is usually the blocker for teams who cannot send conversations to a vendor at all.
